⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Bols
Age: 32
Canon: Akame ga Kill!
Canon Point: Post-death

Background: Fandom wiki!

Personality:
Bols is a nice person. Despite his intimidating looks, he's actually a fairly meek, mild person, and terribly shy around new people. Awkwardly clam up kind of shy, which doesn't tend to help him any on the making a good first impression front. But once people get to know him, they tend to find him to be a very kind-hearted person, always willing and eager to provide a helping hand, and very caring, even going so far as to express regret for destroying one of Kurome's corpse dolls as collateral damage, calling the doll by its name in the process. He's a loving husband and father, a great cook, and just generally a guy who wants everybody to be happy and healthy. He'll readily help complete strangers any way he can, and he doesn't even mind the way people tend to react to his appearance as long as somebody can get them to calm down. In fact, if anything, his ego trends towards under-inflated; he's quick to deflect praise and expresses doubts about how well he can stand up to Night Raid. It's like he's made out of sunshine and rainbows and flowers and puppy dogs, basically.

HOWEVER.

Bols is not a nice person. He sets people on fire for a living, in large quantities and without mercy. He doesn't hesitate to follow his orders, even when they're cruel and terrible, as they frequently are because Akame ga Kill! does not fuck around with how evil the Empire is. And he knows very well how fucked up his job is, but he does it anyway, because it's his job to. And he's good at it. I mean, yes, pointing a flamethrower at people does not generally require much in the way of finesse, but WHEN IT DOES (like, say, in a one-on-one fight with a dodgy swordswoman), Bols is your guy. He's not a tactical genius or anything, but he does have a good enough head for strategy to spot a trap or successfully feint while, again, wielding a flamethrower.

So where do these two aspects meet in the middle? In a huge morass of self-loathing and self-flagellation, of course! The horrible things he's done for the Empire rest heavily upon his conscience, and because of that, he firmly denies it whenever he's called a nice person. It's also why he so readily accepts it when people react poorly when first meeting him: he considers the poor treatment as part of the punishment he deserves for all the wrong he's done. The fact that he was doing it all on orders isn't an excuse either; in his own words, "a sin is a sin." He never uses the specific word "karma" when he talks about it, but that's clearly the kind of concept he has in mind--because he's done so much to earn a lot of hate, it can't be helped if he's treated poorly.

But that's okay! He can endure anything with the love and support of his family. Of course, his family isn't here, so his loser friends will have to do instead. (His loser friends will do just fine.)

Abilities: Bols is without his teigu at his canon point, so he's restricted to his natural abilities of being built like a brick shithouse and knowing some wrestling moves. Also some above average heat/fire resistance, but nothing approaching superhuman levels.
